The Uyo Senatorial District has mandated Senator Aniekan Bassey to ensure that, upon his return to the Senate in 2027, he mobilizes and lobbies his colleagues to re-elect Senate President Godswill Akpabio for a second term.
The leader of the senatorial district, Senator Effiong Bob, disclosed this shortly after participating in the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primaries held at his ward, Ubium North Ward II.
At the exercise, the incumbent senator representing Uyo Senatorial District, Senator Aniekan Bassey, was overwhelmingly nominated as the party’s sole candidate for a second term.
Senator Bob stated that the mandate of the Uyo Senatorial District is to protect and advance the collective interest of its people, which, according to him, includes supporting the re-election of Senator Godswill Akpabio as Senate President of the 11th National Assembly.
According to him, “The only person authorized to vote for the Senate President from Uyo Senatorial District is Senator Aniekan Bassey, because on that day, only serving senators will vote. All of us who are not senators have given our mandate to Senator Aniekan Bassey to represent our collective interest.”
He further noted that the massive turnout witnessed during the APC nomination exercise across wards in the district is an indication of the greater participation expected during the general elections.
Senator Bob expressed confidence that many eligible voters currently outside the state would return home to cast their votes for the APC.
He also commended the leadership of the state governor, Pastor Umo Eno, for ensuring a peaceful and seamless nomination process, describing it as one of the most orderly in the history of Akwa Ibom State.
In his remarks, the Chairman of Uyo Local Government Council and Chairman of ALGON in Akwa Ibom State, Dr. Uwemedimo Udo, applauded the people of the district for their massive turnout and orderly conduct throughout the nomination process.
He described the participation as a reflection of the governor’s performance, noting that Pastor Umo Eno has demonstrated sincerity and commitment in empowering the people and transforming the state.
Dr. Udo further asserted that the APC in Akwa Ibom State remains firmly rooted at the grassroots due to the governor’s widespread acceptance and achievements.
He expressed optimism that the party would record a sweeping victory across all elective positions in the 2027 general elections by a wide margin.
