The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly (AKHA) Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs has commended the Chairman of Etim Ekpo Local Government Council, Gideon Uwa, for his impressive performance in infrastructure development, human capital development and grassroots governance.

The commendation came on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, during the committeeโ€™s oversight visit to Etim Ekpo Local Government Area to inspect completed and ongoing projects, assess the utilisation of public funds and evaluate the impact of government interventions on the lives of the people.

Speaking during the inspection, the Chairman of the Committee, Rt. Hon. Mfon Idung, said the projects executed by the Uwa-led administration reflected prudent management of resources and a clear commitment to improving the welfare of residents.

He noted that local government administration is primarily about bringing development closer to the people through quality infrastructure, improved social services and impactful empowerment programmes.

Earlier, the council boss highlighted several landmark projects executed by his administration, including the remodelling of the Council Secretariat featuring a 1.1Km internal road network, elevated parking lots, drainage systems and walkways, as well as the renovation of the Legislative Chambers.

He also listed the installation of solar-powered streetlights, the ongoing construction of the Utu Etim Ekpo Ultra-Modern Market with solar-powered coldroom, payment of monthly stipends to village youth presidents, educational interventions, healthcare programmes, and youth and women empowerment schemes, noting that the projects underscore his administrationโ€™s commitment to sustainable grassroots development.

Uwa assured the lawmakers that all ongoing projects would be completed on schedule while more development initiatives would be implemented in line with Governor Umo Enoโ€™s ARISE Agenda.

Responding on behalf of Etim Ekpo stakeholders, the Immediate Past Transition Chairman, Hon. (Elder) Ekpuk Eshiet, commended the AKHA Committee for its objective assessment and applauded the Gideon Uwa-led administration for delivering impactful projects that have improved the lives of the people.
